I Thought I Knew
I thought I knew what beauty was.
The soft perfection of a rose,
Petals of silk, kissed by the early dew.
The warmth of the morning sun,
The gentle shades of pink and blue.
A tender kiss to start the day.I thought I Knew what happiness was.
The sound of a child's laughter,
At a butterfly floating by.
A wish you make on a falling star.
As it shoots across the midnight sky.I thought I knew what passion was.
The red and orange of the setting sun.
A fiery passion that lights the sky,
Just as the moon begins her gentle rise.
And cools the flames with silent serenity.I thought I knew what love was.
Then I met you.

Love is like a bouquet of flowers,
So many different hues,
Lovely and soft,
Each petal brand new.They must be treated delicately,
For the stems will break,
These are needed to be strong,
Or any strife they can't take.Each day opening up a little more,
With the warmth of the sun,
This is how a true love,
Will have begun.In time the fields are full,
Overflowing with beautiful flowers,
Softly flowing back and forth,
Gentle summer showers.

You turned my darkness into light,
You made everything all right.
You picked me up when I was down,
You turned my life around.
If I didn't have you, what would I be?
A blessing is what you are to me.
When I needed you the most, you were there,
Even if it seemed like you didn't care.
When I didn't think I could make it another day,
You chased all my doubts away.

The world is full of many people, its true,

How your hurtful words
Cut deep inside of me.
You say you really love me.
And though you're always there,
deep within my heart,
I feel you just don't care.
You cuss, put down and argue;
Complain at all I do.
How much all this just hurts me,
But you haven't got a clue.
I try so very hard,
If only you could see.
How the tiniest little effort
Means so much more to me.
You choose not to support me
In anything I do,
When you criticize my efforts,
You make my heart so blue.
Never would I do that,
I'd never put you down.
If I ever saw you unhappy
I would turn your frown around.

So why can't you be happy

This world seems so different
Than it ever did before.
I can now put on a smile
As I head on out the door.
My heart is not as heavy,
It's beginning to feel light.
I'm glad I didn't let you go,
I had to stand and fight.
My life would be so different
If you turned and walked away.
My heart would so bitter
If you didn't want to stay.
Though love has but four letters,
It still can be quite strong.
A sacrifice is willing
When you've loved someone so long.
